Students will describe and discuss weather, snowpack and avalanche processes, and identify how these processes relate to observations and travel within avalanche terrain. Unfortunately this class is full with a waitlist. This is an AIARE certified level 1 avalanche course consisting of three evening lectures at the Mountaineers clubhouse in Seattle, and a two day field trip based out of the Mountaineers Baker Lodge at the Mount Baker ski area (lodging costs for Saturday night ARE included, see below for more information). AIARE 1 is for anyone—regardless of mode of travel—who recreates in or near avalanche terrain. (This includes skiers, snowboarders, snowmobilers, snowshoers, and mountaineers.)
